5 Minute Devotion: Suffering and Obedience

Have you ever considered that there is no end to the ocean? The waves never cease. As soon as one wave crashes into the shore, the next comes right along behind it.

The crashed waves do not need to return to the ocean because the Lord intricately designed our planet so that water is continuously restored to the ocean. It will never dry up!

“For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea” (Psalm 107:25). “…and he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm” (Luke 8:24).

Just as the Lord has the power to replenish the waters in the oceans, He has the power to renew our strength when waves crash in our lives.

As homemakers, there are so many times when we feel as if we cannot go on another day. The monotony of our lives can feel suffocating. But sister, it is during those times that we must cling to Jesus even tighter. We can bear the fruit of faithfulness during times of suffering.

When it feels as if our strength is crashing as quickly as the waves on the shore, the Lord is there to renew our strength.

“…My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9).

The Bible reminds us time and again that there is no end to the Lord’s mercies. Nehemiah 9:31, Lamentations 3:22, Psalm 51:10.

We [Christians] know that just like there is no end to the water of the ocean, there is no end to the power in us supplied by God. As believers, all we need to do is ask the Lord in prayer to be our strength. (Phil. 4:13, 2 Cor. 13:9)

Just like the Israelites and the manna from Heaven, God will give us exactly what He knows we need every minute of every day.

Be obedient to the Lord and He will sustain you through your suffering.

Gracious Father,
I come to you now with a troubled heart. My suffering feels as if it is swallowing me up. Father, please give me strength during this time. The Bible says that your mercies are new every morning. Praise you, Lord, for your faithfulness. God, I ask that you be my strength while I am weak in this suffering. Lord, I know your Word says that suffering produces righteousness. Please use this time to mold me more into your image. Help me cling to you now and turn my focus off of my own circumstances and onto your sovereignty.
In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
