We’ve got the crock pot out again for today’s recipe! I’ve always cooked roast beef in the oven before but thought I would test it out in the crock pot for a change and really loved it. This will be my preferred method from now on!
All you need to do is put a quarter cup of water in the bottom of the crockpot and then add the roast beef. I then sprinkled a packet of gravy on the top of the meat and placed nobs of butter on the top. Put on the lid, switch it on to low and leave it for eight hours (or you can do it on high for four hours). Now you can enjoy time with family and friends. I love using my crockpot on Sundays so I can get it going after lunch and have it ready by dinner time. (With this recipe you will still have to cook the vegetables, though!)
When the meat was cooked I took it out and rested it on a plate while making the gravy. I poured the liquid from the crockpot into a pan and brought it to the boil. Then I added 1 tablespoon of cornflour mixed with 1 tablespoon of water and stirred until it thickened.
I then served it with roast potatoes and pumpkin, and carrots, peas and corn. A delicious traditional dinner. Do you like the new plate I got for Mother’s Day?
- 1.5kg (3lb) of Roast Beef
- ¼ cup of water
- Packet of Gravy
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- 1 tablespoon of cornflour
- 1 tablespoon of water
- Pour ¼ cup of water into the crock pot
- Place the roast beef on top of the water
- Sprinkle the packet of gravy powder on top of the meat.
- Place 4 tablespoons of butter on the top.
- Cover the crock pot and cook on low for eight hours (or high for 4 hours).
- When cooked take out the meat and rest it for a few minutes while you make the gravy.
- Pour the liquid from the crockpot into a pot and bring to the boil
- Add the cornflour mixed with the water.
- Stir and return to the boil, then simmer for a few minutes until the gravy thickens.
